Enhancing the understanding of the contribution of oil and gas make as well as the critical role the oil and gas industry plays in energy transition to a low carbon energy future.

For almost 5 years, the #ClubeDePetroleo has been a proactive voice for the upstream oil and gas industry. Since our earliest days, we have used that voice to advocate for policies that support our members, so that they can provide the safe, secure energy supplies that society needs.

Much of our advocacy work involves policy and regulation, on topics such as safety standards or the transition to a low carbon future. We aim to voice our view – in an open, transparent forum – before decisions are made, advocating for our members’ views before elected officials make their judgement.

We are committed to sharing sound data and expertise to help regulators and governments develop new policy frameworks that help support new objectives in everything from climate to safety to the environment.

We know that the next few years are going to be challenging for our industry. And that we will need to intensify our advocacy work as the geopolitical landscape continues to shift rapidly and society moves through the energy transition.

Energy Transition

The challenge of climate change is surely the greatest challenge of our generation.

We welcomed the 2015 Paris Agreement, and, as a society we face multiple pathways to reach its objectives. Many of which require difficult choices to be made.

That’s why advocacy based on sound data is so important.

Our Energy Transition Directorate is working to help the oil and gas industry accelerate the implementation of low carbon projects and operations and support the need for:

Standardization, rapid adoption, and repeatability to quickly implement low carbon projects and practices across the whole industry.
Transformative lower carbon technologies for new and existing assets

Safety

For many years, we have advocated for strong but fair safety regulation and our long-term goal remains the same: to eliminate fatalities and the release of major accident hazards.

We do this through hosting workshops with Members, meeting with regulators and Trade Associations, to help our industry share knowledge and drive improvements in safety

Standartization

Industry Days and online webinars boost dialogue on greater standardization and collaboration, helping enable the supply chain to become better, cheaper and faster, making the industry more competitive and a more attractive investment proposition.

Our Geomatics Committee works with international bodies to help develop and adopt standards to manage Coordinate Reference Systems. It also organizes Industry Days and online webinars, helping to grow our status as a geomatics authority within the energy industry.

Decomissioning

As an industry, we must decommission oil and gas assets in a responsible way. But we also need practical, achievable decommissioning policies and regulations.

Our Decommissioning Committee helps Members plan, fund and deliver decommissioning projects that are safe, responsible and efficient, and advocates for risk-based decommissioning that considers both technology and evidence-based science.

Around the world, the Committee responds to new policies and participates in guideline reviews. It works with a host of regulatory bodies such as OSPAR and the International Maritime Organisation. And our work is backed by technical reports, and position and response papers.

Promoting the Benefits of the Oil and Gas

Although the major use of petroleum is for fuel, and petroleum and natural gas are often employed to generate electricity, there are many other uses. We have created infographics and webpages to show these uses and help increase understanding of how the oil and gas industry works and the role it plays in society, today and into the future.

In 2021, we launched the “Women in Energy” series to promote women’s careers and expertise across the energy sector.

Women are on the frontline of the energy transition. As the oil and gas sector moves towards a sustainable future, ClubeDePetroleo wants to showcase the women who are fundamental to shaping the future of energy.
